Speaking of international holidays that have been hijacked by the corporate world, today is April 1st.

That means most petrol-headed folk on social media will undoubtedly get bombarded with all sorts of cutesy fake press releases about wacky new car features and motorsport announcements throughout the day. Most of them will probably be cringey and awful, but you can always rely on one or two manufacturers to get it right.

And this year one of them is Toyota Australia.

Toyota Australia this morning announced the first ever convertible HiAce — a vehicle that they claim is "an exciting alternative for the style conscious road warrior." Just 2019 of the soft-topped vans are said to be in line for production, exclusively for the Aussie market.

But behind its swish styling (check out that roll-hoop!), the drop-top HiAce houses one big, flaky, mince-filled secret weapon.

The rear tailgate is no normal HiAce tailgate. Instead, owners can simply slide the unit out like a giant drawer to reveal a world-first for the industry; a pie oven.

By our reckoning, the pie oven has a capacity of approximately 15 family-sized bacon and egg units — equal to around 45 singular mince and cheese Big Bens, or 114 pint-sized overpriced savouries.

Controls for pie-oven temperature adjustment are accessible at the side of the oven, although it's hoped that those adjustments could also be made from the driver's seat. It's unclear whether the oven incorporates Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Topping all of this off, like a generous squirt of sugary red sauce, is the hacked-up HiAce's name. It's called the PieAce.

None of this is real of course. But, going by the response to the story on social media, maybe Toyota Australia have a winning idea for future production on their hands ...
