Toyota’s C-HR+ reinvents the compact SUV as a full EV.

Toyota’s C-HR+ reinvents the compact SUV as a full EV.

Toyota has unveiled the all-electric C-HR+, a bold addition to its battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup.

Retaining the striking coupe-SUV profile of its hybrid stablemate, the C-HR+ introduces a dedicated BEV platform with enhanced versatility, ample interior space and a dynamic driving experience.

Built on Toyota’s e-TNGA 2.0 platform, the C-HR+ is not based on the petrol-powered C-HR but instead shares underpinnings with the larger bZ4X

The new C-HR+ slots below the bZ4X in Toyota’s electric range and has a 2750mm wheelbase, which is 102mm shorter than the bZ4X.

Toyota has positioned the C-HR+ as a compact, city-friendly alternative, while the bZ4X is aimed at buyers needing extra space and practicality for family use.

Stylish design meets practicality

The C-HR+ carries forward Toyota’s signature design language while optimising aerodynamics for electric efficiency. A sleek silhouette, sculpted character lines and a distinctive rear-end give it a dynamic presence.

Unlike the bZ4X, which has been criticised for its unconventional styling, the C-HR+ features a more refined and cohesive design. Despite the coupe-style roofline, Toyota has ensured generous headroom for rear passengers.

Inside, the cabin blends modern aesthetics with practicality. Measuring 4520mm in length and boasting a 2750mm wheelbase, the C-HR+ offers generous interior space, including a 900mm front-rear couple distance.

Cargo capacity stands at 416L, catering to everyday usability. Premium features include ambient lighting, wireless smartphone chargers, rear USB ports and a panoramic roof.

Powertrain and performance

Toyota will offer the C-HR+ with two battery configurations: a 57.7kWh pack for front-wheel-drive (FWD) models and a 77kWh battery for both FWD and all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants.

The entry-level FWD model produces 123kW and has an estimated WLTP range of 455km, with a 0 to 100km/h time of 8.6 seconds. Opting for the larger 77kWh battery increases output to 165kW and extends range to 600km, while improving acceleration to 7.4 seconds.

Sitting at the top of the range, the AWD version generates 252kW, achieving 0 to 100km/h in just 5.2 seconds and offering a 525km range. The twin-motor setup enhances grip and handling, reinforcing the C-HR+ as a dynamic yet practical SUV.

Built on Toyota’s e-TNGA BEV platform, the C-HR+ benefits from a low centre of gravity, increased body rigidity and precisely tuned suspension. Improved aerodynamics and optimised weight distribution should contribute to a fun-to-drive experience.

Charging options include an 11kW onboard AC charger as standard, with a 22kW upgrade on higher trims. Fast DC charging supports speeds up to 150kW, while a new battery pre-conditioning system enhances charging performance. An energy-saving heat pump, heated seats, steering wheel and windscreen improve overall efficiency and comfort.

Advanced tech and safety

Toyota has equipped the C-HR+ with its latest T-Mate safety suite, including Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance systems. Key features include a blind spot monitor, adaptive high-beam system and parking support brake, with park assist and a panoramic view monitor available on high-grade variants.

A 14-inch multimedia display comes standard, featuring EV-optimised navigation that calculates routes based on battery charge and available charging stations.

The MyToyota app allows owners to monitor charging status, driving range, and vehicle usage remotely.

With a blend of bold styling, practicality and electrified performance, the C-HR+ aims to strengthen Toyota’s position in the highly competitive EV-SUV market.

The Toyota C-HR+ is set to launch in selected European markets in late 2025, with a wider rollout in 2026. Local availability is yet to be confirmed. The C-HR+ will complement Toyota’s growing BEV range, alongside the Urban Cruiser and bZ4X, as part of the brand’s multi-pathway approach towards carbon neutrality by 2035. In the meantime, Toyota New Zealand sells the petrol-hybrid C-HR, currently starting at $46,990.
