One of the motoring world's worst-kept secrets has now been aired in full online — the new BMW Z4.

After sneak images of the Z4 leaked on Monday, plenty speculated that the roadster would make its world debut at Monterey's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance (BMW have been teasing for weeks that 'something new' would launch at the iconic event on August 23).

Well, now some of BMW's press images have leaked onto the airwaves as well.

The snaps don't necessarily add to what we've already seen. They show the top-spec M40i model, with the same arrangement of soft edges and welcoming curves that we discussed earlier this week. And I'll reiterate — it's great to see a production model that shares plenty of its design cues with its initial concept.

What the images perhaps highlight best is the Z4's stubby dimensions. It's certain to fit in well with the equally compact Audi TT and Mercedes-Benz SLC. What is new are the glimpses of the Z4's cabin and engine-bay.

Drivers are faced by a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, which itself sits in front of a cleanly laid out digital instrument cluster. The centre stack is headlined by a touchscreen iDrive infotainment system that's angled towards the driver. The exterior's curves aren't necessarily echoed by a dashboard layout that instead emphasises sharp lines.

Slender sports seats hug the driver and their passenger, while the centre console comes with a concealed wireless phone charger and USB outlets. Nurled dials, textured and smooth metals, and piano black surfaces outline the Z4's luxury intentions. There's more pics of the cabin in the gallery below.

In terms of the engine-bay, like a lot of other modern cars there really isn't a lot to see. Just a lot of big black plastic panelling covering up 'the goods'.

It will come equipped with either a turbocharged 2.0-litre 185kW four-cylinder engine, or — as is the case for the pictured M40i — a twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine capable of producing between 260kW and 290kW.

The actual power outputs are still to be announced, of course, and the same goes for the rest of the Z4's specs and images. And expect all of that to come on August 23rd.
