The Roadster timeline moves again
In February 2024, Elon Musk was targeting an end-of-year reveal and 2025 production. By June, he was again saying the Roadster would be able to “fly”. Neither the reveal nor production followed.
AutoNext now reports that Tesla has posted a red Roadster teaser carrying the words “Go for launch” and the date-style marking “10.01”. Early reservation holders have reportedly been invited to an event in Waco, Texas, on 1 October 2026 and given until 16 September to RSVP.
This date comes with invitations
Roadster timing has shifted five times in 2026 alone, according to AutoNext. A proposed 1 April demonstration moved to late April, then “a month or so”, followed by an August thruster demonstration and now the October event.
The reported venue, guest list and RSVP deadline give this date more weight than the earlier statements. Customer deliveries remain another matter.
Production remains the real test
Tesla unveiled the current Roadster concept in 2017 with a 2020 production target. Musk later promised a SpaceX package with 10 rocket thrusters, revised its acceleration claims and pushed the car behind Cybertruck.
AutoNext cites Musk's November 2025 statement that production would probably start 12–18 months after the demonstration. If that still applies, a 1 October reveal points to production between October 2027 and April 2028.
Tesla has yet to confirm final specifications, pricing, a delivery quarter or New Zealand availability. The Waco event needs to show what the Roadster has become and when buyers might finally get one.
