The all-new Mini Cooper Convertible is set to launch in the first quarter of 2025, and pricing for the anticipated vehicle has just been revealed.
Sporting both performance and aesthetic upgrades, the fourth-generation convertible aims to enhance the open-air driving experience.
Under the bonnet, the Mini Cooper Convertible comes equipped with a 150kW four-cylinder engine delivering 300Nm of torque.
This powertrain is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, propelling the convertible from 0 to 100km/h in a swift 6.9 seconds. With a top speed reaching 237 km/h, Mini enthusiasts can expect sporty handling and precision steering.
The suspension has been optimised with highly preloaded anti-roll bar mounts to improve cornering dynamics. Mini notes that these adjustments enhance both steering and vehicle stability, particularly during high-speed manoeuvres. For drivers who like taking on twisty roads, these enhancements promise a well-balanced and responsive driving experience.
A standout feature of the new Mini Cooper Convertible is its fully automatic fabric roof, which can be opened or closed while driving at speeds up to 30km/h.
The soft-top roof, available in classic black or with a grey Union Jack design, opens in 18 seconds and closes in just 15 seconds. For partial open-air enjoyment, the roof also functions as a sunroof, opening to a length of up to 40cm.
When the roof is fully retracted, it folds neatly behind the rear headrests, preserving the vehicle’s sleek lines. Luggage capacity is modest at 160L with the roof open, expanding to 215L when closed. Practicality is further boosted by a tailgate that opens downward, facilitating easier access to the boot.
The Mini Cooper Convertible includes several safety features designed to protect occupants during open-air driving. An automatic rollover protection system deploys instantly if sensors detect a rollover risk.
Additionally, a wind deflector located between the cockpit and rear seats reduces noise, allowing all passengers to enjoy the journey.
Inside, the cabin combines the brand’s 'Charismatic Simplicity' design with sustainable materials, including recycled textiles. The central OLED display, a high-contrast 240mm screen, ensures visibility in bright sunlight, perfect for top-down cruising.
Pricing and availability
Pricing for the Mini Cooper Convertible starts at $64,990 for the entry-level Classic trim, with upgrades available in the Favoured and JCW Sport trims, priced at $68,990 and $70,990 respectively. Each variant offers unique enhancements, with features ranging from adaptive cruise control to Mini's augmented reality navigation system.
With its blend of performance, safety, and style, the Mini Cooper Convertible’s return to New Zealand is set to appeal to drivers who appreciate both spirited driving and the freedom of open-air motoring.
