Porsche recently unveiled a remarkable one-off 993 Speedster crafted by their Sonderwunsch division. This extraordinary vehicle was commissioned by a passionate Porsche enthusiast and collector, fulfilling a long-held dream to complete his extensive Speedster collection.
A rare gem
While Porsche offered Speedster versions of the G-Series and 964 models, the 993 never officially received the same treatment.
In reality, only two factory-built 993 Speedsters exist: one built in 1995 for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's 60th birthday and another crafted in 2001 for comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
Now, a third rarity has joined this exclusive group: a yellow 993 Speedster belonging to Italian-born architect and industrial designer Luca Trazzi.
A vision realised
This unique factory one-off, carefully built to order by Porsche's Sonderwunsch program, distinguishes itself with bespoke design and technical elements.
The project began with a 1994 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet undergoing a comprehensive transformation that included a redesigned roof, a reworked tail and a completely revamped interior.
The client's background in design allowed him to be "intensively involved" in the development process, contributing his own drafts and sketches.
A modern classic
The 993 Speedster showcases a unique rear cover with signature bumps, personally designed by the client. It's complemented by a reworked canvas roof and a shorter windshield, capturing the iconic Speedster silhouette.
Additional custom touches include retro-inspired conical mirrors and a Turbo-style body kit, featuring a distinctive front bumper, side skirts and rear quarter panels.
Porsche's designers skillfully integrated modern four-point LEDs into the tinted headlights and reinterpreted the full-width taillights and indicators.
The Speedster rides on 18-inch Turbo wheels, finished in black with striking yellow pinstripes. The original yellow donor vehicle now boasts a vibrant Otto Yellow paint, custom-developed for the client and named after his dog.
Handcrafted interior
The cabin is adorned with black leather and contrasting yellow stitching, featuring hand-sewn checkered patterns on the seats. This bespoke treatment extends to the luggage compartment and the matching touring bag. The interior also boasts carbon fibre inserts, including the seatbacks and the illuminated door sills.
Even the power window switches received bespoke symbols with the Speedster silhouette, alongside a one-off badge on the dashboard and Speedster embroidery on the headrests. The Porsche Classic Communication Management infotainment system combines a classic look with modern features like navigation and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
Performance boost
An extensive development program like this couldn't overlook the underpinnings. Porsche sourced the engine, steering and brakes from the legendary 911 Carrera RS, a lightweight marvel from 1994 and 1995.
At its core lies a naturally aspirated, air-cooled 3.8-litre flat-six engine producing approximately 224kW. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
