How good.
At the beginning of the year when Nissan Motorsport revealed it would sport backing from Castrol, we all knew that it would raise some mouth-watering prospects for the 'retro-fied' endurance events at the end of the year.
And after unveiling a cracking early noughties ensemble for the Sandown 500, the team have outdone themselves again in unveiling another livery from their Larry Perkins past for next weekend's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Revealed just this morning, the colours could really be any from the mid-'90s Perkins era (including the switch to No. 11!). Those familiar sharp lines from the nose were worn by Perkins Holden Commodores for a number of years, three of which resulted in Bathurst 1000 silverware.
But this livery in particular is meant to depict the team's victory in 1993 — Perkins' first win as team owner alongside the late Gregg Hansford.
“Larry is a real legend of our sport and a lot of his most famous moments were at Bathurst,” said driver Rick Kelly.
“To win three times in five years is a remarkable performance.
“This livery is a definitely a fan favourite and something I am honoured to be racing in. I hope 2018 will be the fourth victory for this design.
“It was a special moment to have Larry walk in to his old workshop to see the car. I grew up watching Larry race and this is without doubt one of the key highlights of my career, sharing this moment with him."
For those relatively fresh to the sport, the four-car Nissan Motorsport team is basically the modern incarnation of Perkins Engineering. At the end of 2008, Perkins sold his operation to Todd and Rick Kelly who then ran a four-car Commodore team until 2013, when Nissan came on board.
The car will be a bit of a dark horse, too. Kelly has been very quick all season — breaking his own personal victory drought along the way. Co-driver Garry Jacobson has been rapid, too, with race miles on his side thanks to a slot in the Dunlop Super2 series, as well as pace shown at Sandown.
