Nissan have revealed the next-generation, 100 per cent electric Leaf will feature ProPILOT autonomous technology.
Developed by Nissan, the technology will allow autonomous drive on single-lane highways.
ProPILOT, operated at the touch of a single button, will control the steering, acceleration and braking in a single lane on the highway and be able to function in heavy traffic congestion or during long commutes.
In the coming years, Nissan’s ProPILOT technology will offer increasing levels of autonomy. Nissan expect the system will eventually able capable of navigating city intersections.
ProPILOT technology is part of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s blueprint for developing technologies for the future.
“The ultimate embodiment of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the new Nissan Leaf will be the most advanced, accessible EV on the market, today," said Director of Electric Vehicles for Nissan Europe, Gareth Dunsmore
"Adding ground-breaking ProPILOT technology to the new Nissan Leaf will prove invaluable in unlocking many of the benefits of electric vehicles, creating less congested, cleaner cities for future generations.”
Nissan are still are still tight lipped on a release for the new Leaf, simply stating the full-electric hatchback is 'coming soon.'
The first-generation Leaf broke new ground in the electric vehicle market, and today is the world's best-selling electric vehicle with more than 260,000 sales globally.
