Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has just started playing in New Zealand, and fans who've already seen the film may have noticed an exciting detail.

One of the movie's protagonists is Mirage, a young and gritty Autobot that takes the form of a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8. We can't deny the character looks stunning clad in its silver and blue paint scheme.

It's curious why the film's producers chose this vehicle for the film, but when you dive a bit into the history, it's not hard to see why. Porsche only built 55 units of the Carrera RS 3.8, making it a rare and valuable car that not many have seen on the silver screen, let alone in person.

Speaking to its rarity, the production crew did not use an original example of the vehicle, instead building five prop cars made to look exactly like the genuine model. Each prop car reportedly served different purposes, with one model reserved for stunt sequences and another designed to reverse at high speeds. Despite not using the actual vehicle, Porsche says the engine sounds are as authentic as they come.

“It was important to us to represent the sound of the 911 model depicted in the film... It was extremely ambitious due to the number of cars needed from a limited production 911, but we are thrilled with the result and hope audiences are too," said Ayesha Coker, Vice President of Marketing of Porsche Cars North America.

Fans can now see Mirage and the other Autobots fight forces of evil in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Make sure to spot the Porsche 911 Carrera and all five prop versions if you see the film in theaters.
