New Boxster models more powerful and more agile
The new more powerful and more fuel efficient four cylinder Porsche 718 Boxster and Boxster S will be launched in New Zealand around the middle of this year.
The new sportscars will have 25kW of additional power, and be 13 per cent more fuel efficient than the existing models.
The company says the two-seater convertibles continue the tradition of the four-cylinder flat engines used in the Porsche 718 mid-engine sports cars that won numerous races in the 1950s and 1960s, among them the Targa Florio and LeMans.
The 718 Boxster produces 220kW from a 2-litre engine, while the 718 Boxster S produces 257kW from 2.5-litres.
Porsche also uses a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry in the S model, and says it is the only manufacturer to offer VTG technology in production cars with petrol engines.
The new models have new chassis tuning and stronger brakes to provide what the company describes as passionate and sporty driving.
The roadster has also been totally revised except for the luggage compartment lids, the windscreen and the convertible top.
A new dash panel frames the cockpit, and the dash will include a state-of-the-art touchscreen, with navigation included as standard equipment.
The redesigned rear of the new Boxster has a wider look, due to the accent strip with integrated Porsche badge between the tail lights. The new tail lights have three-dimensional LED technology and there are four-point brake lights.
The new Boxsters have a retuned chassis to enhance cornering performance, and Porsche says the electromechanical steering system is configered to be 10 per cent more direct than current models, which it says makes the Boxster even more agile and easier to steer, both on race tracks in everyday traffic.
More specification detail and pricing of the new Boxster models will be announced closer to their launch in New Zealand in about six months.
