Mercedes-Benz has elevated its iconic AMG G 63 with new features, aiming to enhance performance and customisation.
This latest iteration of Mercedes-AMG's version of the G-Class combines off-road prowess with luxury finishes. The new premium SUV will resonate with enthusiasts seeking a capable vehicle on and off the road.
Revamped V8 engine
The heart of the new G 63 is its 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine, now paired with a 48V integrated starter generator (ISG). This addition delivers an extra 15kW of power and 200Nm of torque for a total of 430kW/850 Nm.
This power plant enables the AMG G-Class to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, or 4.3 seconds when equipped with the Race Start feature, available as part of the AMG Performance Package.
Michael Schiebe, Mercedes-AMG GmbH Chairman, highlights the ambition behind the enhancements: “The G-Class is an automotive icon, and the Mercedes-AMG G 63 has been the most popular model for many years. This is both an obligation and an incentive for us".
“Our aim was therefore to make the enhanced performance even more tangible – both on and off road," he continued.
Advanced suspension and off-road features
Engineered for both highway and rugged terrains, the G 63’s suspension system showcases AMG Active Ride Control. This optional hydraulic stabiliser minimises body roll in real-time, ensuring better handling and lateral dynamics on-road, and improved traction and stability off-road.
Complementing this, the standard AMG Ride Control suspension offers adaptive damping tailored to driving conditions and the driver’s preferences.
For off-road enthusiasts, the G 63 includes an Offroad Cockpit that displays critical metrics like transmission temperature, topographical data, and geocoordinates.
Also new is the Transparent Bonnet feature, giving drivers a virtual view of the terrain directly beneath and ahead of the vehicle, enhancing maneuverability in tricky conditions.
Multimedia and comfort upgrades
The G 63 incorporates the MBUX multimedia system, complete with AR-based navigation, a Burmester 3D sound system and multiple interaction options. The Comfort Package also adds Keyless-Go, wireless phone charging and temperature-controlled cupholders, adding a layer of convenience and luxury for passengers.
Tailored style and enhanced options
Exterior tweaks include redesigned air intakes, AMG Night Package accents and 22-inch cross-spoke alloys.
Mercedes also offers a range of personalisation options, such as the AMG Performance Package, AMG Night Package II and AMG Carbon Fibre Package, allowing owners to curate their G 63’s appearance to suit their taste.
Inside, the Superior Line Interior Plus Package and MANUFAKTUR options provide bespoke finishes, from leather upholstery to ambient lighting.
