Ford New Zealand says it already has more than 200 orders for its Mach-E SUV-BEV, after online orders opened earlier this week.
With the ordering system comes full details of specification and pricing: the entry RWD (76kWh battery, range 440km) opens at the expected $79,990, meaning Kiwi buyers can claim the full Government $8625 Clean Car Discount.
In what's becomes a bit of a trend with NZ distributors, that entry price is "drive away", meaning there's nothing more to pay - which keeps the invoice where it needs to be for the Discount.
But the $109,990 and $124,990 prices for the AWD and GT are still exclusive of on-road costs (ORCs), meaning there will be further charges at dealer level to get them on the road (the more traditional retail price model in NZ).
The RWD gets a 198kW/430Nm single electric motor and is good for 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds. The AWD ups the ante on battery (99kWh, 550km) and performance, with dual motors making 258kW/560Nm and 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds.
The AWD also picks up extra equipment, including LED headlights, larger 19-inch wheels and red brake calipers, power seats adjustment, panoramic roof and B&O audio system.
The GT is the undoubted hero model, with the same-size battery as the AWD, slightly shorter 490km range but 358kW/860Nm and 0-100km/h 3.7 seconds. That monster torque figure (the highest ever for a Ford NZ production model) comes courtesy of the Performance Edition package, which is standard on the NZ-specification GT.
The Performance Edition (although that name is not actually used in reference to the Kiwi GT) also brings MagneRide adaptive suspension and upgraded tyres. There's an additional Untamed Plus drive mode (in addition to the standard Mach-E's Whisper, Active and Untamed), aimed mainly at track use.
The GT also has a more rear-biased torque distribution than the standard Mach-E modles.
The Mach-E arrives in NZ in the first quarter of next year.
