  • A new electrified V8 and revised steering are intended to improve refinement and response.

Mercedes-Benz has refreshed the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680, giving its flagship SUV a more distinctive front end, a new electrified V8 and a lengthy list of interior and digital upgrades.

The visual changes start with a redesigned Maybach grille, including an illuminated outline and, in selected markets, an illuminated Mercedes-Benz bonnet star.

Rose-gold accents have been added to the Digital Light headlamps, while a new dark petrol and verde silver two-tone finish joins the Maybach paint palette.

Inside, Mercedes has focused on the sort of detail that matters to the GLS's intended passengers.

New Nappa leather and trim choices join revised massage functions, extra surround-sound speakers and a new vibration massage in the front seat cushions. Executive rear seats now add calf massage.

V8 power, more quiet

Mercedes says the new electrified twin-turbo V8 delivers a more forceful response while preserving the calm expected of a Maybach. The company has not published a power figure in this release.

An updated steering system is intended to sharpen precision, while Airmatic air suspension remains standard.

With E-Active Body Control L fitted, the system analyses the driving situation up to 1,000 times per second; Curve mode can lean the body by up to three degrees.

The latest MB.OS and MBUX software are also onboard, with updated Maybach-specific graphics and over-the-air updates. Mercedes says China orders are already open, while US and European order books open in late July before further markets follow.
