Skoda UK has created a special model to mark the end of production of the third-generation Superb. The hand-built model is called the Superb Sleeper Edition, boasting 350kW and a raft of motorsport-inspired modifications.
The swift Superb is inspired by "sleeper car" culture - vehicles that boast high performance but don't look anything out of the ordinary. So it's finished in a handsome but low-key Royal Green (a colour introduced to the UK range in 2023 to mark the coronation of King Charles III), with tan perforated leather interior.
The base car is the Superb estate 2.0 4x4, similar to that used by the New Zealand Police.
But Skoda has handed the car over to RE Performance, the engineering team behind the record-breaking Octavia that set a Land Speed Record of 227.080mph (365km/h) on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2011. Engine power is up from 206kW/350Nm to 350kW/661Nm, thanks to an upgraded turbo and a revised fuel system.
The car’s ride height is 50mm lower, and it's equipped with a handling pack featuring racecar-like coilover suspension, along with a performance brake kit (larger grooved discs and upgraded callipers).
Over the last 23 years, Škoda has delivered around 1.6 million units of the Superb. The Sleeper Edition is not intended to spawn a production version or option pack; Skoda says it's a one-off, although it will be available for media drives.
