Tell us about your car?
It’s a 1991 Nissan Figaro, automatic, it’s a convertible and light blue and white. It has five seatbelts but it’s super-squashed with five. You can fit three people comfortably in the whole car, there’s not much leg room.
I chose it because it stands out. It was just a cool car.We have two Figaros, we have an identical one. The same year and the same colour. We keep the second car in storage. We don’t drive it around as much.
Who else drives your car?
My dad, sometimes.
How does it fit your personality?
It’s quite out there and I feel that I can be quite out there. And I can be conversational, and my car is a good conversation starter.
How does it suit your work?
A lot of people come up to me and ask me what I am selling so it is good for marketing. A lot try to take photos of it as well.
How often do you clean it?
Once a week, inside and out.
Do you prefer manuals or automatics?
Automatic. I don’t drive manuals but I would like to learn.
Who taught you to drive?
My friends mostly. My parents were too scared to let me in their car. I was 18 when I got my licence, and I got all my licences first time.
Any advice for young drivers?
Don’t drink-drive.
Your first car? And did you love it or loathe it?
My first car was a Mazda Demio. It was my grandparents’ car and they gave it to me when they stopped driving. I still have it in Auckland. It has been stolen twice and I have got it back both times. I loathe that car so it’s ironic that it keeps coming back. And my brother crashed it as well.
Most memorable road trip?
I travelled the whole of the North Island with my mum and my brother and sister. We went to places that I will probably never go to again. All along the coastline, to lighthouses, to Kaitaia.
If you could travel anywhere in the world with any well-known person in any car?
I would love to go to the US, to that long road that goes across the places where they see all the aliens. I would go with Amy Schumer because she’s really funny and I would go in a Mustang convertible.
Favourite movie car scene?
The seventh Fast and Furious movie when the film is in Abu Dhabi and they go up to the Etihad Towers complex. They have the most amazing car, a Lykan Hypersport, I think it belongs to a prince in the movie. It’s like my dream car.
Favourite racing driver?
Lewis Hamilton, probably, because he’s really hot. He’s really good looking and also he races for Mercedes.
Favourite place to go driving on Waiheke?
Down to Man O’ War and to Orapiu because it is so beautiful and you can see across to the Coromandel. That part of the island seems so close to the peninsula.
What do you listen to when you’re driving?
I like House music. My stereo doesn’t work so I have a portable speaker.
Other drivers, what irritates you?
People who don’t use their indicators.
Your take on Auckland traffic?
I still drive in Auckland and I always forget how bad it is until I go over there. On Waiheke you don’t have to plan anything in advance. But when you travel in Auckland you really have to think about the traffic, and I actually get serious road rage, which I don’t even think I have until I go over there and drive.
