Next generation acceleration with the brakes to match
The second-generation McLaren Super Series will be officially unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show – but the first performance details have been released and they’re bold enough to make your neck hurt.
McLaren say the second-generation series will redefine the supercar segment, equipped with stopping performance equal to its acceleration capabilities.
The new 650S replacement model, originally code named the P14 but now rumored to be called the 720S, will go from zero to 200km/h in 7.8 seconds, neck twitching stuff right?
But what's arguably more impressive is the stopping power, from 200km/h McLaren say their new model will reach a standstill in 4.6 seconds and only 117 metres.
That’s six metres less than the 650S and almost equal with the P1 when fitted with a specially developed Pirelli P Zero Corsa trye.
“As well as delivering the outstanding driver involvement and enjoyment for which the brand is renowned, McLaren’s new supercar will also excel in everyday driving,” says McLaren Automotive Chief Test Driver, Chris Goodwin.
“The extreme performance and dynamic prowess of the second-generation Super Series, honed by testing at the limits and beyond, provides the perfect foundation for it to be the most complete supercar across the full range of use.”

Increased breaking performance is delivered, in part, by collaboration between Pirelli and McLaren engineers to develop a new P Zero Corsa tyre specifically for the second-generation series. The new rubber is said to be responsible for a six per cent increase in mechanical grip compared to the 650S.
McLaren will also fit the new model with lighter, stiffer brake calipers, carbon-ceramic discs as standard and reworked brake deal feel and modulation.
Full details of the McLarens new second-generation Super Series will be confirmed on March 7 at Geneva – we can’t wait to get it on-track.
