The heist of a lifetime or Grand Theft Auto wannabes?

That question surrounds the suspects accused of stealing a Rolls-Royce Ghost in Glen Eden. As seen in a video acquired by the New Zealand Herald, the incident reportedly occurred while the owner was out for roughly 20 minutes getting takeaways.

The security footage shows a man and a woman arriving at the homeowner's driveway minutes after they leave to get dinner at around 9 pm. The male suspect leaves the car and goes down a side gate to enter the house. The woman follows, and they begin ransacking the home, taking jewellery, a massage chair, and important documents.

“We needed police to [take] action quickly so they [the offender] don’t have the courage to come back to our property,” the homeowner told the Herald. "It’s not about the money. I just don’t feel safe in my own house anymore," she added.

The pair then head for the garage, and the man is seen opening the garage door from the inside as the Rolls-Royce Ghost's welcome lights turn on. At this point, the suspects have likely found the key fob and could drive away scott-free.

And that's that they do exactly. The footage shows the woman maneuvering the ultra-luxury vehicle out of the driveway and taking off.

Our own editor Dean Evans spoke to the Herald regarding the burglary: "[it's] a mystery why someone would steal something that is very expensive like that," saying it was likely a “very specific and targeted” heist.

“There aren’t too many cars more expensive than that in New Zealand. [The] Ferrari SF90 comes to mind, around $1.2 million,” he added.

Fortunately for the homeowner, police has confirmed the vehicle was recovered around 4 km from the property within hours of the heist. It sustained damage that will cost around $15,000 to repair. Considering the vehicle is insured, we reckon that's not a problem.

As for the suspects, their whereabouts are unconfirmed.
