Kia has officially revealed the all-new Syros, a compact SUV making its global debut in India.
Positioned below the Seltos in Kia's lineup, the Syros aims to deliver high-end features, modern styling and versatile performance in a sub-4m footprint. While the initial launch focuses on petrol and diesel variants, an electric version is expected to follow.
Bold design with SUV credentials
The exterior design embraces a boxy profile with robust plastic cladding, high ground clearance and striking design cues in a package measuring 3995mm long, 1800mm wide and 1665mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2550mm.
The upright nose hosts low-mounted LED headlights and a minimalist grille-free fascia, with cooling duties handled by the bumper intakes.
Swollen fenders and a distinctive B-pillar design echo similarities with Hyundai's Casper and Inster.
At the rear, L-shaped LED taillights wrap around the tailgate, enhancing the vehicle's visual width.
Tech-loaded interior
Inside, the Syros takes inspiration from Kia's EV3, boasting a 30-inch digital cockpit made up of dual 12.3-inch displays and an additional 5-inch screen for climate control.
High-end cabin features include a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon sound system and wireless smartphone connectivity.
Rear passengers benefit from a sliding, reclining and ventilated bench seat - a rare offering in the subcompact SUV segment.
Cargo space is rated at an impressive 465L, maximising practicality. For safety, the Syros comes equipped with six airbags and offers up to 16 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), delivering Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities.
Powertrain options
Underpinned by Kia's reinforced K1 architecture, shared with Hyundai's Casper and Inster, the Syros promises refined suspension and enhanced ride comfort.
Powertrain options include a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 188kW and 172Nm of torque, alongside a 1.5-litre diesel generating 85kW and 250Nm.
Both engines are paired with either a manual or automatic transmission, sending power exclusively to the front wheels.
Market availability
The Kia Syros blends practicality, advanced technology and bold styling, positioning itself as a compelling choice in the highly competitive urban SUV space.
Set to launch in India in early 2025, Kia will begin accepting pre-orders in January, with pricing revealed in February.
While Kia has not confirmed international availability, the Syros could find unique appeal in many markets, potentially including New Zealand.
