- Jaguar’s new electric GT targets over 735kW with tri-motor setup.
- Development draws heavily from classic models like E-type and XJ.
- Focus is dual character: performance and refinement in one EV.
Jaguar is looking backwards to move forwards.
As the brand prepares to reveal its polarising four-door electric GT later this year, engineers have spent time behind the wheel of some of its most iconic models, from the XK120 to the E-Type and XJ, to rediscover what makes a Jaguar feel like a Jaguar.
That exercise, dubbed the “Spirit of Jaguar Drive”, has shaped the character of the upcoming EV, which promises to blend performance and refinement in equal measure.
One car, two personalities

According to Jaguar, the new GT is designed to deliver “two characters in one car”: engaging performance with deep reserves of power, alongside comfort and composure for long-distance driving.
It’s a formula rooted in the brand’s past. Models like the XJ Coupé and XJS were singled out as key influences, as these cars could cover ground quickly while keeping occupants relaxed and insulated.

Matt Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director at JLR, summed it up: “At its best, Jaguar has always delivered two characters – performance and comfort – in perfect harmony and our new luxury GT is no different.”
Visually, the new model will continue that connection to heritage, with a long bonnet and low roofline, deliberately avoiding the upright proportions often seen in modern EVs.
Big power, fast brains

Under the skin, this is where things move decisively into the future.
Jaguar has confirmed a tri-motor electric setup producing more than 1,000PS (735kW) and over 1,300Nm of torque. Power delivery is managed by advanced software capable of reacting in as little as one millisecond, helping distribute torque precisely where it’s needed.

That system is paired with intelligent torque vectoring, while a combination of air suspension and twin-valve active dampers aims to balance ride comfort with sharp handling.
The development programme has included both real-world testing in extreme environments and extensive virtual simulation, all focused on refining the car’s driving character.
A new direction for Jaguar

By all accounts, this four-door GT is a potent signal of where Jaguar is heading.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, said: “It provided clear direction to help us create the most technically advanced Jaguar ever made.”
The car will be officially unveiled in September, forming the foundation for Jaguar’s next generation of electric vehicles.
If Jaguar delivers on its promise, this GT could redefine what an electric luxury car feels like—not just fast and efficient, but genuinely engaging to drive.
