Hyundai has officially teased the upcoming Ioniq 9, a three-row electric SUV set for its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
Building on the company’s E-GMP platform, the Ioniq 9 shares its foundation with the Kia EV9, offering a glimpse of Hyundai’s ambitions to meet the growing demand for spacious, family-friendly electric vehicles (EVs).
Inspired by Hyundai's Seven Concept from 2021, the Ioniq 9 promises to capture the attention of SUV enthusiasts.
The production model retains design cues from the concept, including Hyundai’s distinctive 'Parametric Pixels' lighting system, showcased with a full-width LED bar across the front and vertical pixel lights along the fascia.
According to Hyundai, this intricate detailing and the diagonal lines on the SUV’s body take inspiration from traditional Korean hanbok garments, lending the Ioniq 9 a sophisticated aesthetic.
The Ioniq 9's robust profile is further enhanced by thick D-pillars and squared-off wheel arches, signalling a clear link to the Seven Concept’s bold design.
However, while the concept's rear suicide doors were a unique touch, it’s unlikely these will make their way to the production model.
Underpinning the Ioniq 9 is the versatile E-GMP platform, also used by Kia’s EV9. While Hyundai has yet to confirm battery specifications, it's plausible that the Ioniq 9 will adopt the same battery configurations as its Kia counterpart, potentially offering 76.1kWh and 99.8kWh options.
If this assumption holds, power output may range from a practical 160kW to a more performance-oriented 430kW, ensuring options for various buyer needs.
Hyundai has suggested it will release more details on the Ioniq 9 leading up to the LA Auto Show reveal, keeping the intrigue alive for those interested in a high-capacity, zero-emission SUV.
This flagship Ioniq model will mark Hyundai’s most significant EV to date, aimed squarely at families and individuals looking to merge spaciousness with electric mobility.
