New Civic Type R priced for NZ at a snip under 60k
Honda's highly anticipated 230kW, record-setting Honda Civic Type R has landed in New Zealand, as evidenced by a selection of cryptic photos that've populated social media since late last week. And with their arrival comes confirmation of pricing.
The blisteringly hot hatch will start on our shores at $59,990. While that might sound somewhat steep for something that wears the Civic nameplate, it also compares very well to this car's key rivals.
Let's put that price in perspective. A new Ford Focus RS starts for almost 10 grand more, at $69,880. The Golf R? $69,490. BMW's underrated M135i? $80,500.
From a pricing perspective, the Civic Type R finds itself squabbling against the group of hot hatches one-step removed from the hallowed top tier of super hatches. Things like the Golf GTI ($54,490), the 197kW Renault Megane RS265 ($55,990), and Skoda's Octavia RS range that starts at $47,490 for the manual lift back.
This all means value for money, considering that the Type R knocked most of them off at the Nürburgring back in April when it reset the front-wheel drive production record.
