Honda New Zealand launches the HR-V range of SUVs today

Honda New Zealand today launched its new HR-V compact SUV range, saying the models offer the styling of a coupe while offering the freedom of a utility vehicle.

Powered by a 1.8 litre i-VTEC engine, the new models have a low centre of gravity and the company says the sedan-like steering make it perfect for city traffic or the open road.

There are six HR-V models available, starting with the HR-V S through to the top of the range HR-V Sport+, which is fitted with side running boards, front and rear aero bumpers, side skirts and 18inch Mondulo alloy wheels.

All models will come with a 7-inch touch screen and reversing camera, alloy wheels, Hill Start Assist, Honda's 'magic' seats and emergency stop signal fitted.

Honda used the HR-V moniker on an early SUV several years ago, which was boxy and hardly a runaway success.

However the new models are sleekly designed with much greater aerodynamic efficiency, and Honda says inside the new models the second row Magic Seats enable 18 different seating configurations.

More details about the new models will be available later today.
