BMW’s new-look retail space highlights sustainability and EV growth.

Hawke’s Bay BMW has officially become the first dealership in New Zealand to showcase the brand's full Retail.Next overhaul - a bold new look and feel for BMW and Mini showrooms globally. The freshly refurbished Napier facility now hosts both brands under one roof, courtesy of the Bayswater Group.

Essentially, Retail.Next represents a complete rethink of how BMW wants customers to engage with the brand, melding tech, design and experience into one modernised package. Expect open spaces, large-format screens, digital delivery processes and strong links to the BMW App for a smoother, more connected visit.

Electric feels and future goals

As part of BMW’s push for sustainability and future-focused design, Retail.Next is also built with flexibility and environmental impact in mind.

The launch aligns with BMW’s wider ambitions to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, with steps already in motion - like offering 15 fully electric models across BMW and Mini in New Zealand.

Electric vehicles (EVs) made up nearly a quarter (24.5%) of BMW’s local sales in Q1 2025. For Mini, that figure jumps to 30%, meaning one in three new Mini drivers now plugs in rather than fills up.

A people-powered pivot

BMW’s rise back to the top of New Zealand’s premium sales chart in 2024 wasn’t by accident. Adam Shaver, Managing Director of BMW Group New Zealand, credits the people behind the brand - its employees, dealer partners, and customers alike.

Speaking at the opening, Shaver called the launch a milestone: “The investment Hawkes Bay BMW has made into its refurbished facility and the integration of the MINI brand for the first time - through the new Retail.Next identity - marks a major milestone in delivering a premium and modernised customer experience.”

As for what’s next? BMW and Mini dealerships across the country could soon follow suit. But for now, Hawke’s Bay is setting the tone in style.
