HARLEY- DAVIDSON UNVEILS A NEW COLLECTION OF BIKES WITH ‘SUPERHERO’ TRAITS
Harley-Davidson and Marvel have unveiled “Super Hero Customs”, a collection of custom Harley-Davidson motorcycles inspired by iconic Marvel characters.
Throughout its 110-year history, Harley-Davidson has expressed personal freedom and individuality through customisation of its motorcycles. That passion is alive and well with the unveiling of 27 custom motorcycles, each uniquely designed to reflect the personality and traits of a Marvel superhero.
The collaboration showcases some of the most popular Marvel characters and Harley-Davidson models — a Groot-inspired (Guardians of the Galaxy) Street Glide Special from the Touring range, a Thor-inspired Breakout from the Softail family, and a Black Widow-inspired Iron 883 from the Sportster family are just a few of the bikes created.
This year also marks the 75th anniversary of Captain America’s first appearance in a Marvel comic. To celebrate this, and the iconic character’s Harley-Davidson riding history, the Captain America custom Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special will be on display in Sydney from August 15-September 5.
“The spirit of freedom is alive and thriving in the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. Like Captain America, it leads from the front with strength, power and endurance, enabling you to venture to new worlds and beyond,” said Harley-Davidson Australia-New Zealand spokesman David Turney .
“We customised the Captain America Street Glide Special to inspire Harley-Davidson dealers across Australia and New Zealand to create their own Marvel character-inspired custom motorcycle using the wider H-D range. The results have been phenomenal — a true combination of super-powers, with more than 16 Marvel characters represented,” he said.
The CMO of the Walt Disney Company in Australasia, Gavin Ashcroft, said: “Harley-Davidson and its dealers have done an amazing job with this Marvel-inspired collection. It’s exciting to see such a rich legacy of iconic characters and their individual stories so creatively captured.”
Participating Harley-Davidson dealerships will have their individual Super Hero Custom motorcycle on display, or fans can visit h-dmarvelcustoms.com to vote for their favourite character, trait or bike. Voters will go in the draw for a chance to win a Harley-Davidson and Marvel holiday to Hollywood and Las Vegas.
Though most of the Harley-Davidson and Marvel Super Hero Customs range won’t come to New Zealand, two of the bikes will.
An Iron Man V-Rod is on display at McIver & Veitch in Dunedin, while a Forty Eight based on The Punisher (above) will be on display at Rolling Thunder in Christchurch, until the middle of next month.
