AI keeps charging temperatures controlled

  • Geely's fifth-gen charging station delivers a claimed peak output of 2250kW.
  • Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001 tests reached 70% charge from 10% in four minutes 30 seconds.
  • Geely says predictive thermal controls hold average battery temperature below 55°C.

Geely has revealed a fifth-generation charging station with a claimed peak output of 2250kW, backed by artificial intelligence designed to keep battery temperatures in check.

In tests involving the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001, the system took the batteries from 10% to 70% charge in four minutes 30 seconds. Charging from 10% to 97% took eight minutes 40 seconds.

Those figures put the hardware deep into megawatt territory, but Geely's announcement concentrates as much on thermal control as outright speed. Its AI system predicts battery temperature changes up to 30 seconds in advance, allowing the charger to adjust its strategy before heat becomes a limiting factor.

Keeping the heat under control

Geely says the system targets an average battery temperature below 55°C and a peak below 65°C. A five-point liquid-cooling arrangement supports that thermal strategy during high-output charging.

The company also claims a pulse-restoration function can extend battery cycle life by up to 20%. Geely has not published independent test results supporting that claim.

The station is designed to work with two of the group's battery technologies. Geely says its Shendun Golden Battery can accept a peak charging rate of 12C, while the Ultra Short Blade Battery reaches 6C.

Fast hardware, unanswered rollout questions

The announcement signals how quickly Chinese manufacturers are pushing charging beyond today's familiar public fast-charger outputs. Yet the headline number is only part of the story: vehicles need compatible battery packs, cooling and charging electronics to make use of it.

Geely has not disclosed where the fifth-generation stations will be installed, when public deployment will begin, or which markets will receive them. Until those details emerge, the 2250kW unit remains a potent technical preview rather than a charging option drivers can plan a journey around.
