Ford has revealed the Mustang GTD’s official performance figures, cementing its status as the most powerful production Mustang ever.

After 13 months of anticipation, the flagship muscle car's supercharged 5.2-litre V8 engine has been confirmed to deliver a staggering 608kW and 900Nm of torque. This puts the Mustang GTD squarely in the realm of supercars, setting a new benchmark for the iconic model.

At the heart of the Mustang GTD lies a high-revving V8 engine, roaring up to 7650 rpm. This powerplant benefits from numerous enhancements, including a dry-sump oil system, a refined intake and exhaust setup and a smaller supercharger pulley. To maximise performance, Ford has equipped the GTD with a titanium exhaust system, optimising airflow and sound.

The result is an impressive top speed of 325 km/h, bolstered by a Drag Reduction System and active aerodynamics. While this velocity sets a new high-water mark for the Mustang line-up, it still lags slightly behind the 348km/h peak of the GT supercar.

Nonetheless, the GTD’s power-to-weight ratio and advanced aerodynamic package ensure it is a formidable competitor on the track.

Greg Goodall, Chief Program Engineer for the Mustang GTD, articulates the car’s lofty ambitions: “We’ve been laser-focused since day one to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang. GTD’s heart is its supercharged 5.2-litre V8, packing more horsepower per litre than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.”

Ford has engineered the Mustang GTD for track dominance. A wide body kit not only gives the GTD a menacing stance but also serves to enhance its aerodynamic efficiency. Carbon ceramic brakes provide exceptional stopping power, while a motorsport-inspired chassis featuring inboard rear suspension and semi-active dampers fine-tune handling and stability.

For enthusiasts seeking the ultimate in performance, an optional Performance Pack adds 20-inch magnesium wheels and further aerodynamic tweaks.

However, this level of engineering comes at a premium. Priced at a base of US$325,000 (around NZ$524,000), the GTD’s optional upgrades will push the price even higher for those who demand every ounce of capability from their Mustang.

With the Mustang GTD, Ford has redefined what its iconic muscle car can achieve, seamlessly blending power, aerodynamics and cutting-edge technology.

While its price tag places it firmly in the supercar category, the Mustang GTD represents a new chapter for the brand - one that pushes the boundaries of performance while retaining the unmistakable Mustang spirit.
