Ferrari's latest creation combines race-inspired aerodynamics with everyday road usability.

Ferrari has officially unveiled its latest supercar, the F80, a hybrid beast that blends race-proven technology with road-legal usability.

With a production run limited to just 799 units, the F80 is designed to represent the pinnacle of Ferrari’s engineering expertise.

Ferrari's F80 aims to deliver next-generation performance, pushing the boundaries of hybrid powertrains, aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics.

Hybrid V6 power

The Ferrari F80 is equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 engine, a formidable power plant that produces 671kW on its own.

Paired with two front-mounted electric motors, the hybrid system delivers an additional 210kW, bringing the total power output to a staggering 895kW. This makes the F80 Ferrari’s most powerful road car to date.

The supercar's hybrid system is inspired by technology used in Formula One and endurance racing, and Ferrari has integrated an electric turbocharger for the first time. This piece of equipment eliminates turbo lag, ensuring the F80 delivers instantaneous power and responsiveness across the rev range.

With a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 2.15 seconds and a top speed of 350km/h, the F80’s performance figures mark a new standard for Ferrari.

Yet, the hybrid system is more than just raw power.

The inclusion of electric motors allows for better torque distribution, particularly with the front axle contributing to all-wheel-drive capability. This enhances traction and stability, making the F80 more capable on both the road and track.

Another innovative feature is Ferrari’s Boost Optimisation system. This technology allows the car to learn the layout of a track and automatically deploy extra power in key areas to maximise lap times.

There's one drawback to the F80's hybrid setup, however: the glaring lack of a dedicated EV mode. But Ferrari hopes all the power and tech it has crammed into this new supercar will make up for that.

Cutting-edge aerodynamics

Moving on, Ferrari’s focus on aerodynamics with the F80 is evident in every aspect of the car’s design. The F80 incorporates active aerodynamic elements that work in harmony to generate 1000kg of downforce at 250 km/h.

Key features include a dynamic rear wing, a triplane front wing and a highly efficient rear diffuser. Together, these components help keep the car stable at high speeds and improve its cornering capabilities.

The F80’s active suspension system is another standout feature. It adjusts the car’s ride height and stiffness in real time, ensuring that the vehicle maintains optimal aerodynamics and handling regardless of the driving conditions.

On the road, these systems contribute to a smoother driving experience, while on the track, they offer precision handling that allows drivers to push the car to its limits.

Function meets form

Ferrari’s design team has struck a balance between aesthetics and functionality with the F80.

The car’s low-slung profile and sharp, angular lines are a clear nod to Ferrari’s motorsport heritage. Recognise the front fenders? Those are directly inspired by the iconic F40 supercar.

However, Ferrari's design also leans heavily towards maximising performance.

The narrow, driver-focused cabin is designed to reduce drag, while the "1+" seating configuration offers just enough space for a passenger without compromising the car’s aerodynamic efficiency.

Inside, the F80’s cockpit places the driver at the centre of the experience.

The controls are all oriented towards the driver, with a new steering wheel design that will likely set the standard for future Ferrari models. Every element of the interior has been crafted with performance in mind, from the materials used to the layout of the controls. This looks like a car built for drivers who appreciate the feel of a high-performance machine.

Ferrari's most ambitious road car

The new Ferrari F80 shows what’s possible when cutting-edge tech and high-performance engineering come together. From its hybrid powertrain to its advanced aerodynamic systems, the F80 pushes the boundaries of what we expect from a road-legal supercar.

For Ferrari, the F80 is obviously about proving that the future of its high-performance vehicles lies in a careful balance of internal combustion and hybrid technology.

The F80 ushers in next-gen hybrid supercar performance, blending power, innovative features and usability in a way that few of its rivals can match today.

But with an eye-watering €3.6 million (approximately NZ$6.4 million) starting price, only a very limited number of people will ever get the chance to own an F80. Despite the reality check, the F80's impact on the supercar world is still expected to be significant.
