Ken Block joins FIA World Rallycross championship for Ford for 2016 tilt
YouTube and rally sensation Ken Block has announced that he will be competing full-time in the 2016 FIA World Rallycross championship, behind the wheel of a Ford Performance factory-backed Fiesta rally car.
The move will see Block — who has seemed eager in the past to plant his caboose in anything so long as it’s got four wheels (and a Ford badge … ) — commence a more structured and focused 2016 motorsport campaign.
“I've been stoked with what my team and I have accomplished so far with my Ford Fiesta ST racecars, and I'm excited to see what we'll be able to do next season with factory support,” said Block.
“It's going to be a very exciting 2016 and I can't wait to get started. Thanks again to Ford for being an awesome partner.”
The Hoonigan Racing Division pilot comes off a mixed 2015 Global Rallycross season, where he could only muster a seventh-place finish in the championship despite winning three events — a feat only equalled by one other driver.
As he trades one rallycross series for another, Blocks main rivals are most likely to be the fierce Team Peugeot-Hansen outfit and their Red Bull Peugeot 208s, as well as reigning series champion and 2003 World Rally Championship winner Petter Solberg in his Citroen.
Round one of the FIA World Rallycross championship will kick off on April 16–17 in Portugal.
