Thanks to the efforts of the folk at the Ideal Team Ventures (ITV) the legendary Italian car manufacturer De Tomaso is set to be reborn.
Purchasing Gumpert back in 2014, ITV saved the brand, turned it into Apollo Automobili, and released the incredible Intensa Emozione.
By the sounds of things, ITV is planning to do the same with De Tomaso and celebrate the brand's revival with a release of a new car. The only detail that ITV has released is the name — Project P.
While no pictures of the new machine have been released, a redesigned logo with an updated 'T' was revealed.
"Since the acquisition of De Tomaso we have been secretively working behind the scenes on a world-class revival strategy with the intention to go public with our efforts for the 60th anniversary. When the new car debuts this summer, not only will another special vehicle be added to the brand’s heritage, but the story will finally be told," said De Tomaso General Manager, Ryan Berris.
After De Tomaso founder Alejandro De Tomaso passed away in 2003, the brand lay dormant until 2014 when ITV acquired it. According to reports at the time, ITV paid around €1 million for the brand.
Originally founded in 1959 by Argentinian-born De Tomaso, the company found fame with their joint project with Ford. The Pantera was an Italian designed chassis and body with a massive 5.8-litre Ford V8 under the rear engine cover.
It was the perfect combination of Italian styling and American muscle, and with 246kW under the hood, it was reasonably quick for its time.
