  • Omoda Jaecoo has unveiled two new SUVs; the compact Omoda 4 and larger Omoda 7.
  • The Omoda 5 also gets a new series-parallel hybrid system.
  • Parent company Chery also revealed a 7-seat 'multi-SUV' that can be configured as an SUV, ute or camper.

Chinese automaker Chery Group has unveiled several new developments under its Omoda Jaecoo brand at its annual International User Summit, held earlier this week.

The event marked the debut of two new SUV models - the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 - alongside a hybrid variant of the existing Omoda 5 (called the Omoda C5 here).

The Omoda 4 acts as a new entry level in the Omoda range.

The Omoda 4, positioned as an entry-level compact SUV, features a new design approach described by the company as “Cyber Mecha,” with angular lines and a distinctive exterior. The vehicle also includes customisable interior features and entertainment systems.

The Omoda 5 has been updated with a new series-parallel hybrid powertrain, known as SHS-H, that delivers a combined output of 165kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. It also claims a WLTP driving range of up to 1000km.

The large Omoda 7 (left) features the latest iteration of the company's self-parking system.

The larger Omoda 7 was also presented, equipped with an upgraded Automatic Parking Assistance (APA) system. The system is said to support over 1000 parking scenarios and includes a Remote Parking Assistance (RPA) feature, allowing drivers to control parking manoeuvres via a key remote.

At the same summit, Omoda's parent-brand Chery also introduced what it calls the world’s first “7-Seat Transformable Multi-SUV,” a vehicle designed to adapt to a wide range of family and lifestyle needs.

The SUV features a modular design that allows it to switch between six distinct configurations, including a large seven-seat mode, a double-cab pickup, and a camper setup. The transformation is enabled by a quick-release rear hatch and adjustable interior components.

Chery's new SUV can be configured as a 7-seat SUV, a double cab ute or a camper.

In its full-size SUV mode, the vehicle measures 4.9 metres in length and offers an interior height of 1,284 mm - enough, the company says, for a child to stand upright and for elderly passengers to enter without bending - while the pickup configuration includes a 600-litre cargo bed with tie-down points and dividers.

The camper setup supports accessories such as roof tents, awnings, and external power sources, positioning the vehicle as a flexible option for outdoor travel.

Chery says the design was shaped by over 300 days of on-the-ground research across multiple international markets. The vehicle is expected to launch globally in the third quarter of 2026, though no timeline has been confirmed for the New Zealand market.
