Caterham honours Nurburgring centenary

Caterham honours Nurburgring centenary

  • Caterham will build 100 Seven Nurburgring Edition cars globally.
  • Bilstein developed bespoke race suspension specifically for this limited model.
  • The 157kW Seven reaches 96km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Caterham has marked the Nurburgring’s centenary in suitably lightweight fashion, revealing a limited-run Seven Nurburgring Edition built for road and track use.

Just 100 examples will be offered globally, with buyers getting a car based on either the Seven 420R or Seven 340R, depending on market. UK pricing starts from £48,995 (around NZ$112,200), and each car will carry an individually numbered plaque.

Bilstein tweaks for the ’Ring

The key mechanical upgrade is a bespoke race suspension package developed exclusively for this model by Bilstein.

The system was refined using the company’s vertical dynamics test rig, with tuning aimed at the peculiar demands of the Nurburgring.

That means a setup designed to cope with the circuit’s elevation changes, camber shifts and 73 corners, while still being usable away from the track. For a car as light and direct as a Seven, suspension tuning is not garnish but the main meal.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine producing 157kW at 7600rpm. Caterham quotes a power-to-weight ratio of 280kW per tonne, with drive sent through a five-speed gearbox. The Nurburgring Edition reaches 96km/h in 3.8 seconds and tops out at 219km/h.

As a fully licensed Nurburgring product, the special Seven wears official circuit branding.

Buyers can choose from three Nurburgring-themed paint colours: Verkehrsrot, Achatgrau and Basaltgrau. Custom colours will also be available.

Other exterior details include a Nurburgring red track day roll bar, mesh grille with two-tone Seven logo, 620-style nosecone with carbon aero whiskers, Gunmetal Grey chassis finish, carbon front wings, composite aero screen, LED rear lights and Caterham’s Black Pack for the windscreen, headlamp bowls and exhaust heat shield.

Inside, the Nurburgring theme continues with leather seats featuring circuit embroidery and red stitching. There are also carbon interior panels, red stitching on the transmission tunnel, four-point road harnesses and sequential shift lights.

Trevor Steel, Senior Vice President of Operations at Caterham Cars, said: “For a century, this track has championed values that are at the heart of what the Seven is all about - balance, precision and an unmatched driving experience.

“We set out to capture the spirit of the ‘Ring, with every element of the car being honed to reflect the track’s unique demands and character. Designed both for use on the track and the road, the Seven Nurburgring Edition is a unique vehicle that perfectly pays tribute to this famous, globally renowned circuit”.

Caterham used the 2026 ADAC 24 Hours of Nurburgring weekend to show the special edition in its natural habitat, with displays at the Caterham Nürburgring dealership and Bilstein’s paddock stand.
