Brembo strengthens its motorsport portfolio with this latest acquisition.

In a major acquisition, brake systems specialist Brembo has announced a US$405 million (approximately NZ$668 million) purchase of Ohlins Racing, a prominent producer of high-performance suspension systems for both cars and motorcycles.

This deal marks Brembo’s largest acquisition to date, positioning the company for further expansion into the automotive and motorsport sectors. The transaction is expected to be finalised by early 2025, pending regulatory approval.

The acquisition is a pivotal move for Brembo, which has long been recognised for its expertise in braking technologies. By acquiring Sweden-based Ohlins, Brembo strengthens its portfolio with premium suspension systems, well-regarded across motorsport disciplines like Formula One and MotoGP.

“Ohlins is a strong fit for Brembo,” stated Matteo Tiraboschi, Brembo’s executive chairman. “It is a world-renowned brand, with a solid business and an unrivalled reputation, both on the racetrack and the road.”

Founded in 1976, Ohlins has built a reputation for cutting-edge suspension technologies, with manufacturing and R&D hubs in Sweden and Thailand and a global presence in the US and Germany.

Ohlins dampers currently feature in Ferrari’s F1 cars, further bolstering its prestige in high-performance engineering.

This acquisition aligns with Brembo’s strategy to offer comprehensive vehicle systems by integrating Öhlins’ suspension expertise.

Tiraboschi highlighted Brembo’s ongoing goal of providing "integrated intelligent solutions" for customers, leveraging synergies in key automotive technologies.

While Brembo’s revenues from its motorcycle segment account for about 13% of total earnings, the addition of Ohlins strengthens its standing in the two-wheeled market.

The acquisition reflects Brembo’s continued investment in both motorcycle and motorsport arenas, positioning itself to offer more integrated, intelligent vehicle corner systems.
