BMW is giving its X3 M50 xDrive a substantial power increase, with the performance SUV gaining 33kW to reach 326kW. The upgrade accompanies a new optional Black Package and cabin changes across the wider X3 range.
The extra output comes from the M50’s 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol engine, which uses 48V mild-hybrid assistance. BMW quotes a conventional 0–100km/h time of 4.4 seconds and says the updated engine meets Euro 7 emissions requirements.
The power increase applies to all X3 M50 models covered by the update. Buyers do not have to order the Black Package to get the stronger engine.
The darker option
Available from December 2026, the Black Package is exclusive to the X3 M50 xDrive. Its exterior treatment includes 22-inch Polygon 1134 M Black alloy wheels, black brake callipers and black badges edged in silver.
The treatment continues inside with Alcantara across the driver’s instrument panel, the area ahead of the central display, the wireless phone charging tray, door trims and centre armrest.

Seats combine Alcantara and Veganza upholstery with blue stitching and piping. Carbon-look trim, CraftedClarity glass controls and a leather cover for the steering wheel’s airbag add further detail to the cabin.
Cabin changes reach further
BMW’s December updates also bring changes to the broader X3 interior. These include a softer surface in front of the central display, new dashboard stitching and ambient lighting in the centre compartment and inner door handles.

There is also a new glovebox opener, a small change among the more visible trim and lighting revisions. Separately, BMW says the X3 20 also meets Euro 7 emissions requirements.

New Zealand timing and pricing for the updates have not been disclosed in BMW’s global announcement.
