BMW have release pictures of the upcoming addition to their SUV X range – the X2.

Set to go up against the likes of the Auidi Q2, Mini Countryman and Mercedes’ recently update GLA – the X2 crossover will target young and urban SUV buyers.

First revealed as a concept at the Paris Motor Show last year, the production X2 will share the same underpinnings as the new Mini Countryman and BMW series 2 Active Tourer.

The aggressive front inlets, inverted kidney grille and wide bumpers have been carried over from the concept, while the spy shots seem to reveal a more user friendly design for the driver and rear passengers with a taller roof accommodating bigger windows.

As the model name suggests, the X2 will sit between the X1 and X3 in the company’s model range.

BMW is expected to release more details on the new X2 model at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

Global sales are not expect to commence until 2018.
