  • Sixth-gen eDrive, BMW Panoramic iDrive and bidirectional charging debut in the iX3 for future BMW models.
  • BMW’s IAA showcase includes electric scooters, multiple EV and hybrid models and a new high-power charging hub.

BMW is set to unveil the all-new iX3 at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich this September, marking the public debut of its much-anticipated Neue Klasse generation

By all indications, this medium electric SUV is a technology flagship signalling what’s to come for the entire BMW range, from electric to combustion.

First of a new breed

The iX3 headlines BMW’s sprawling presence across the show, taking centre stage at both the Open Space display on Max-Joseph-Platz and the IAA Summit in Messe München.

Visitors can expect daily “Masterclasses” and live demonstrations of the in-house-developed BMW Panoramic iDrive: a sweeping display spanning the lower windscreen, paired with a new multifunction steering wheel and central screen.

Under the skin, the sixth-generation eDrive system promises efficiency gains, while the so-called “Heart of Joy” high-performance computer orchestrates driving dynamics.

BMW is also debuting bidirectional charging for the first time, allowing the iX3 to feed energy back into a home supply (V2H) or the public grid (V2G). This feature joins a wider BMW Charging showcase alongside the iX, i5, and plug-in hybrids.

More than just the iX3 show

Mini IAA Mobility 2025

While the next-gen iX3 will undoubtedly steal the spotlight, BMW will also roll out a supporting cast that includes the i4, i5, i7, iX, X3 30e xDrive and the new M5 Touring plug-in hybrid

BMW Motorrad is pitching in with its CE 02 and CE 04 electric scooters, plus the Vision CE concept, offering a glimpse into urban two-wheeled futures.

Mini is making noise too, as it's set to unveil two new John Cooper Works show cars at its own Open Space and a refreshed Mini Pavilion, doubling down on its motorsport DNA and British character.

History meets future

BMW iX3 Neue Klasse

Adding a dash of nostalgia, BMW Classic has brought along the 1961 BMW 1500, better known as the original Neue Klasse star that helped define the brand’s premium trajectory.

The parallel is deliberate: back then, the Neue Klasse set the tone for decades of success; today’s iX3 is intended to do the same in the electric, connected and sustainable era.

BMW’s sustainability push is visible across the event, as 80% of installations and materials at the Open Space are reusable, with similar practices at the Summit.

The company’s BMW Welt venue is also debuting a new high-power charging hub with eight rapid points, designed by BMW’s own Designworks studio.

The iX3’s debut is BMW laying down a marker for the next chapter of its brand story, one that merges high-tech ambition with a nod to its heritage. Whether it can match the 1500’s legacy? That’s the question Munich is putting out to the world.
