BMW is bringing a fresh dose of flagship glamour to the Cannes Film Festival, using the 2026 event to give the updated BMW 7 Series its first public outing in Europe.
The German brand is again serving as the festival’s official mobility partner, supplying more than 150 electrified vehicles for filmmakers, guests and festival partners. The fleet includes the fully electric BMW i7 and iX, plus the XM plug-in hybrid. It is BMW’s fifth time supporting Cannes, and this year the shuttle service comes with a fairly large side order of luxury sedan news.
Flagship lands on La Croisette

The updated seventh-generation BMW 7 Series will be shown during the festival, which runs from to May 12 to 23. Its European premiere takes place on La Croisette, with the global market launch due to begin in July 2026.
BMW describes this as the most extensive model update in the company’s history. The 7 Series remains the brand’s flagship sedan and will help introduce Neue Klasse technologies across existing BMW models.
The exterior brings a monolithic look, BMW kidney Iconic Glow lighting and minimalist BMW Individual crystal headlights. There is also a world-first BMW Individual Dual-Finish paint option, combining matt and metallic finishes in the same colour without a visible transition.
Screens, seats and serious range

Inside, the new 7 Series leans heavily into tech and rear-seat theatre. Highlights include BMW Panoramic iDrive, the operating system introduced with Neue Klasse, BMW’s first Passenger Screen, an upgraded Theatre Screen and a more immersive cabin lighting package.
Powertrain choice remains broad. BMW says the range will cover internal combustion engines with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, plug-in hybrids and fully electric variants. The electric models will offer more than 720km of WLTP range, helped by sixth-generation BMW eDrive cylindrical cell battery technology.
More AI, more movie business

The 7 Series also gains updated driver assistance, including SAE Level 2 systems, more AI integration and BMW Symbiotic Drive, which is designed to improve interaction between driver and vehicle.
Cannes will not be all static displays and chauffeur duty, either. BMW is showing famous 7 Series models from film and television, including the E38 used in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies.
The brand is also extending its BMW Art Makers programme into film from 2027, supporting emerging talent and artistic projects. A Cannes panel discussion will explore human craftsmanship in a tech-heavy era, with guests including festival president Iris Knobloch and producer, writer and entrepreneur Mehret Mandefro.
