A very green Tokyo debut

Bentley has taken its new Continental GT S and Supersports to Japan with a city-wide Tokyo launch built around the brand's performance side.

The centrepiece was a Tokyo Tower event, where the landmark was illuminated in Bentley green to mark the regional debut of the new Continental GT S and Supersports models. Bentley says more than 100 VIP guests attended the unveiling beneath the tower.

The Continental GT S was joined by the car that inspired it: the new Supersports. For the trip, Bentley used its own "Pymkhana" Supersports, the car driven by Travis Pastrana for the Supersports: Full Send film.

Daikoku, Shinjuku and Shibuya

The Supersports was also taken to Daikoku, one of Japan's best-known car-meet locations. Bentley says the car was fitted with underbody illumination for the visit, glowing soft green to match the accent colour on its livery and front wheels.

The next evening, Bentley hosted a more open "coffee and cars" style event in Shinjuku with creative director Mai Ikuzawa. The gathering brought together supercar, classic and modified-car owners, with the Supersports and several Bentleys joining the crowd.

Bentley also prepared a special Continental GT S wrap inspired by the Hayabusa Shinkansen, the high-speed train that runs from Tokyo to Hakodate. Before the Shinjuku event, the car went to Shibuya crossing, where surrounding screens showed an edit of the Full Send film.

New models, familiar theatre

The event was less about raw specifications and more about putting Bentley's sportier models into a culture-rich setting.

Dave Hayter, Bentley's regional director for Asia Pacific, said Japan has "always been a strong market" for the brand and that the company was honoured to debut the new Continental GT S in Tokyo.

The Supersports now returns to the UK ahead of a public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Bentley has not used this release to disclose New Zealand timing or pricing for either model.
