Holden driver loses car and license after police catch him speeding at 231km/h
Yeah, two hundred and thirty one kilometers an hour.
Utes, especially when combined with a V8 donk, aren't exactly track-day warriors. They're famously lacking in rear grip thanks to almost no weight behind the cab, and they're often built to appease tradies and lifestyle types — not Formula 1 drivers — so subsequently are a bit simpler than their four-door cousins.
As such, you would have to be rather brave or rather mental to try and push one to the limits. Enter, an unnamed 21-year-old Australian man.
In the early hours of a Wednesday morning late last month, Unnamed Man was spotted and clocked by police travelling at 230km/h in his Holden Commodore ute on the Hume Highway — a full 120km/h above the posted speed limit of 110km/h. Having been tested completely sober, Unnamed unsurprisingly lost both his license and his rig. And next month he will face court.
Apart from the obvious, what in particular sucks about stories like these is that they continue to frame the automotive community in a terrible light, and only serve to give that community's doubters even more ammo.
I love a spirited drive as much as the next guy, but there's a clear line between having fun and being a complete weapons grade bell end.
