Countdown now official
Mitsubishi has put a firm date on one of its most anticipated comebacks: the all-new Pajero will be revealed on 2 September 2026.

The Japanese brand's official teaser page now carries the date alongside a “Coming soon” message, turning the Pajero's gradual return campaign into a proper countdown. Mitsubishi had previously teased further details in June, including the return of the model's distinctive triple multi meter, but the explicit reveal date is the genuine new development.
It means the remaining big questions should soon start receiving answers. Mitsubishi has not yet disclosed the new Pajero's powertrain, price, detailed dimensions or market-by-market launch timing. There is also no confirmation of a New Zealand launch at this stage.
What Mitsubishi has confirmed
Although the technical picture remains deliberately incomplete, Mitsubishi says its new flagship is built on a performance-proven ladder-frame foundation and will feature S-AWC.

Inside, the company has confirmed a digital interpretation of the classic triple multi meter. The feature links the new model to earlier Pajeros while shifting one of the nameplate's recognisable cabin details into the digital era.
That heritage stretches back to 1982, when the original Pajero made its debut. The SUV subsequently became one of Mitsubishi's defining models, with the Montero name used in some markets.
For now, Mitsubishi is keeping the spotlight firmly on the reveal rather than filling in every blank early. The 2 September presentation should establish how the ladder-frame flagship fits into the company's modern range and, potentially, which markets will receive it.
Until then, any engine, platform-detail, size or New Zealand arrival claims remain speculation. The confirmed facts are narrower but significant: the Pajero is returning as Mitsubishi's flagship, and the full reveal is now only days away.
