We already know that the Ford Ranger is the AA DRIVEN Car of the Year overall winner. So naturally, it’s also the winner of its class, light commercial vehicle (LCV).

What more can there be to say? Just that looking at the Ford in context of the LCV further underlines how accomplished it is. It’s full of clever features designed to make working life easier, it’s just as capable at towing as ever (maximum rating 3.5 tonnes) and it’s even more versatile off-road for those who need that kind of capability.

So it excels at being a ute, but it’s also raised the bar in terms of design, drivability and refinement for those who also use it as a weekend vehicle, or the tens of thousands who will choose it simply as an everyday family vehicle – an SUV substitute, if you like.

You can even have full-time AWD, a rarity among one-tonne utes, if you opt for one of the V6 models.

Ranger is also a relatively clean LCV. The most thrifty model achieves 7.6l/100km – coincidentally, exactly the same fuel use as our 2021 COTY winner, the three-cylinder Toyota GR Yaris.
