What were your needs when you bought this car? Has it fulfilled those needs?
We needed a medium sized SUV and have predominantly purchased our cars that were European. We needed space for our dog (a white shepherd) and also that could tow our small trailer. We also wanted something relatively frugal, and could be a comfortable drive for our frequent trips to and from the Wairarapa to Auckland and Wellington. Needed to look smart too!
What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.
A good looking SUV, especially in the black that we chose. Ours had some other external features that appealed to us over the cooking version. Volvo’s renowned safety features were also top of mind when selecting. Interior needed to have a premium feel with quality fittings and finish.
What have you discovered since owning the car?
Most all of our expectations have come to fruition. Especially in our distance travels, where it has to excelled. Fuel economy has been a highlight, with the 2 litre turbo having strong pulling power to go with that frugality. Economy not so great around town, but that was to be a expected.
What do you like/dislike about the car?
As covered earlier, the comfort, quality, and ease of travel over longer distances, along with good fuel use. Continues to look reasonably up to date visually, and has a range of safety features that cars today don’t all have. The six speed DSG gearbox is perfectly fine on the open road, but is not as smooth in town. I tend to treat it a bit like a manual then and use the manual option which tidies things up quite a lot in town. Fuel economy not so hot if using it for urban use. As ever, black cars show the imperfections and it is more of a chore to keep looking smart, although after a clean it looks very good. A couple of minor electronic malfunctions, but easily fixed and both were under $500 to remedy. A light bulb went and that was $6 to replace!!
Any other comments on the car?
If you are hunting for a good looking, safety packed medium SUV, the Volvo XC60 is a really viable option that you should look at. Beautiful open road traveller, safe as, and good on fuel, especially if travelling open road.
