I needed a vehicle capable of throwing a few hay bales in then hooking up my enclosed car trailer for the Mazda MX-5 racing series around various tracks in NZ.

What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.

The updates on the interior compared to our previous 2015 model really made this an optimal choice. The increased Towing capacity and better fuel consumption made it a rather easy choice.

What have you discovered since owning the car?

It’s been a great workhorse with only minor complaints. The car has been taken all over NZ with no issues.

What do you like/dislike about the car?

I disliked the Bridgestone tyres, and not a big fan of the cruise control sensor system but overall the car has been a great workhorse.

Toyota Hilux 4runner 1994

Needed an upgrade from my previous 4runner that needed rust work to get another warrant. I take it onto the beach to go surfing so it needs to be 4wd but I cannot afford a younger car as well as not would want to expose one to the elements (& our dogs..) It is slow since non-turbo tired diesel but it does the job! What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you. It is exactly the same as the one i had before that, simple wind-down windows, low and easy maintenance. Rugged classic looks appealed. What have you discovered since owning the car? That they go forever and anything can be fixed up, it just depends how much effort you want to put into it. What do you like/dislike about the car? All of the above, reliability, low maintenance needs, bulletproof, 4wd and no need to be prissy about it. It ticks all the boxes for me. Any other comments on the car? Yes Why would/wouldn't you buy it again? I am planning on keeping this one for a long time to come but if a better species of the same car would come along i could do an upgrade again.

Has it fulfilled those needs? I needed a vehicle that was multi purpose that could carry loads, mountain bikes and the family. It was either going to be another ute or a station wagon. We stuck with the ute as we already had an SUV. What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you. My initial thoughts was that the pricing was within my range and that this ute was an automatic. I did think the fuel efficiency was poor but discounted that as we do not travel many kilometers in it. What have you discovered since owning the car? Nothing really that I wasn't really aware of except that this is the first vehicle that I've ever owned that doesn't have intermittent windshield wipers. I didn't realize this until I encountered the first lot of rain. What do you like/dislike about the car? I like that it is very quiet on the road and dislike that it doesn't have intermittent windshield wipers. Overall a good ute. Any other comments on the car? Great ute or the money if you can look past the fuel efficiency (lack of). I wouldn't look at buying this again as I'd be looking towards a hybrid or electric option for next purchase.

Has it fulfilled those needs? Absolutely. It automatic as i got sick changing gears in the last one, 4x4 for beach, leather seats for easy clean with kids, with canopy to keep gear in the back dry and safe. What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you. After driving quite a few utes, the Ranger, Triton, D-max, Navara, i found them all quite similar. A few differences in certain areas. Why i buy Toyota is because of the service the local dealer give me, they are so good to deal with. Then the reliability in the brand and then resale value. What have you discovered since owning the car? Not a lot really. I check it out well in advance. There was a few features i found later like speed camera location, can warn you. What do you like/dislike about the car? It could look a bit nicer. Mine is just standard so no special wheels etc. The ranger certainly looks better. Inside is a bit behind the times and not as refined as the VW or even the ranger. But it was a bit cheaper so felt it was good value for money. Im am very happy. The overall rating is not 5 only because that typical of me. There alway room for improvement.
