What were your needs when you bought this car? Has it fulfilled those needs?
A family suv capable of towing a tandem axle trailer fully loaded. All wheel drive for safety and traction off road when gathering firewood. Reasonably economic fuel consumption running on 91 unleaded. Every one of these requirements has been met or exceeded expectations.
What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.
A very reliable vehicle as I found to be the experience of 95% of all online reviews I researched prior to purchasing the vehicle upon returning to NZ from Australia. I especially liked the styling when I first saw an XTrail in Australia. My previous experience with Nissan had been positive with just regular servicing required on the two Nissans I had owned.
What have you discovered since owning the car?
The off road capabilities are great. Driving on twisty gravel back roads is so safe. The back seat ride isn’t as comfortably or quiet as the front seats
What do you like/dislike about the car?
The fuel economy is great with the average use on a recent road trip around the South Island being 7.8 ltr per 100km. 10000 km service intervals is good. Tyre wear sees 55000 to 60000km per full set. Wheel alignment stays set. The only dislikes I have are that the seat backs don’t fold flat in the rear and there is a blind spot with the windscreen pillar when entering roundabouts. The red paint isn’t going to look good in another 5 years
Any other comments on the car?
Would recommend this car to a young family as it has Isofix points for safety harness and the doors open wide for easy access.
