Replacing 13 year old petrol SUV with towing capacity as I no longer needed to tow. The MG4 has more than fulfilled the need.
What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.
LOVE IT. When I went to test drive, I was specifically looking for pure EV. As soon as I test drove an MG4, I said this is what I want. I also drove another MG EV and a Hyundai EV but they did not compare at all for handling and drive experience.
What have you discovered since owning the car?
How much can I love a car? Heaps. In my many years and after many cars, this one is my fave. The handling is amazing. The acceleration is a blast. The quiet ride is so nice. The total experience has been more than I hoped for.
What do you like/dislike about the car?
The drive experience overall is wonderful. It is much roomier than I thought. I brought home a dishwasher in it once! The software is a bit naff. The touch screen is slow and the organisation of the menu is annoying. It still has one glitch that has never been fixed - a favourite button setting that doesn't stay set. It's necessary to re-set driving settings every time after parking. The lane keep assist is inferior and not very consistent. Front collision assist is not designed for curving roads and sometimes brakes needlessly. Nothing major but things that could be improved. Oh and I wish it had rain sensing windscreen wipers!
Any other comments on the car?
After owning the car about 18 months, I have zero regrets. All cars have some features that not everyone likes. Because this is an EV, it gets more scrutiny than it deserves. I had driven a Tesla years ago and, especially for the price, the MG4 blows it away. There have only been two slight mechanical issues; the charging compartment lights and boot latch needed replacing. It is a super fun car to drive. I wasn't sure how the slow charging would suit but it's absolutely fine. I have only needed to fast charge on road trips three times but I don't go away much.
