Kilometres travelled - 75,000 - 100,000 km
Do you buy this car new or used? - Used, purchased in 2017
How much did you pay? (including all on-road costs) - $39,000
What were your needs when you bought this car? Has it fulfilled those needs?

Towing a 6mtr, 1500kg Caravan, space available when back seats dropped, safety features and navigation and driveability, reliability and cost of running. It has met all these requirements.

What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.

A huge leap forward in economy from my previous car and also better for towing. Loved the driveability and all the technology on it. Car was 13000kms when purchased.

What have you discovered since owning the car?

Great reliability and reasonable service costs. More economical to tow our caravan than my previous 6 cylinder Subaru Outback which I have kept fuel consumption figures for. This did surprise me. Economy on 91oct is good especially on a trip. Updating the mapping on the navigation is very expensive, battery is more than double the price of a standard battery (stop/ start) znd 19inch tyres are expensive.

What do you like/dislike about the car?

Although I love the red paintwork, it is difficult to repair without full respray ( had to repair a scratch on one door) Poor low quality floor coverings. It appears to be a type of felt rather than proper carpet. Also low end rubber pedal covers and no foot rest cover. We fitted sporty metal covers. Would have preferred full size spare wheel rather than the oversized spacesaver. The headlights although adequate are no where near as good as my wifes HID headlights on her Suzuki sport. The auto start stop is a pain and only works occasionally so is not missed. Seats could be a little more comfortable- -improvement on later models. Love the economy, reliability, driveability, technology, looks and usability.

Sorry to see it drop from 5 Star safety when purchased to a 4 star safety. Some Mazda accessories are way overpriced and you can get similar generic parts for about a third of the price (ie monsoons, sill protection and boot liners.) Mazda towbars also excessively overpriced when car was purchased compared to other manufacturers.

Star ratings:

  • Reliability - 5/5
  • Features/technology - 5/5
  • Performance/economy - 5/5
  • Value for money - 3/5
  • Overall rating - 4/5

Lastly, would you buy this vehicle again?

Yes

Why would/wouldn't you buy it again?

Newer CX5 models have improved considerably.
