2025 with 41,000 kms

How much did you pay? (including all on-road costs)

$41,500

What were your needs when you bought this car? Has it fulfilled those needs?

We're two in our late 70s, replacing a 21 yr old Toyota. I'm 6'5" so needed a decent interior size. And we wanted an EV for environmental and running cost reasons. We have already done another 10,000kms in it without a hiccup.

What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.

t is smooth, quiet, comfortable, amazing interior space. We like the looks and friends and family do too. Even at my height, I don't need the driver's seat right back. And I can easily sit behind the driver's seat when it is set for me. This is very rare in a normal-sized car.

What have you discovered since owning the car?

It's much more economical than we even hoped. It has some safety features we never even thought we needed, but which have become very handy - such as the alert for cars coming when you're backing out of a carpark. And I love the adaptive cruise - so restful in Auckland motorway traffic!!

What do you like/dislike about the car?

Love the running costs, smoothness, adaptive cruise control. Ride is a little bumpy because of the battery weight. No rear wiper.

Any other comments on the car?

Using regen for braking is delightful. Every stop, every downhill, puts juice back in the tank. We joined Genesis and Chargenet and bought a NZ-designed and manufactured home charge from Evnex. We plug in once or twice a week at home and it automatically charges only in the half-price period. As Genesis customers, on chargenet stations around the country we get our domestic rates - way below the commercial rate.

Only one road trip so far and we recharged 3 times in a 600km trip, and each time we had to race back to the car quickly to avoid idle charges. Range anxiety and time to recharge on the go are heavily over-rated. To date, running costs are slightly less than 40% of the petrol car -including the road user charges. We have another road trip coming up, with charging points already planned in, fitting in with meal stops or evenings. At two of the night stops we have onsite charging. We would recommend this EV to almost anyone.

Lastly, would you buy this vehicle again?

Yes

Why would/wouldn't you buy it again?

Well we hope not to have to. It should see us out. We follow the recommendation of not letting it below 20% charge and charging it only to 80% most of the time - which is perfectly fine for day to day useage. Then the night before a road trip we change the parameters so it charges to 100%. Based on current research (no pun) we believe we can expect at least 20 years life from the battery system, by which time we probably won't be driving.
