What were your needs when you bought this car? Has it fulfilled those needs?

I wanted an SUV for its practicality with the family, but I also wanted it to be fun to drive with extra oomph and handling to match. So a normal 2 litre or even larger just wouldn't cut it. I thought why can't I have a SUV thats fun like a hot hatch. So I started researching, but unfortunately to get something that was fun, was $85,000 minimum to purchase. I am a self-confessed researcher when it comes to purchasing, and after many articles, you-tube review videos and hours on-line I settled upon the Cupra Ateca. I could get a demonstrator model with 3000 k's on the clock for $56,000. Seemed a no brainer!

What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.

I took it for a test drive with my 15 year old son after testing a few other cars. I remember taking it for a spin and looking across at my son and he was grinning from ear to ear. He looked at me and I realised I had been grinning the whole time too. If that's the meaning of a car thats right for you, then I was sold at that point.

What have you discovered since owning the car?

I love it. I can drive in comfort mode and its super comfortable like any 'normal' car. I get onto the backroads of NZ, put it into Cupra mode and everything changes. Its such a beauty to drive and 0-100 in 4.9 secs is more than I need (although I admit the acceleration is simply fun). It handles like a dream and I feel so safe in it.

What do you like/dislike about the car?

I love the Alcantara sports seats. They are so comfortable. I drove 8 hours from the far north to Hamilton in one day, and I still felt great. Not what I would call snug, just supportive. Its surprisingly not that thirsty as a daily driver. A mix of urban and expressway driving each day to/from work etc and I am always between 8 to 9 litres per 100km. I haven't found anything yet I dislike about it.

Any other comments on the car?

None. I am so glad I purchased this. Can't believe how much better priced than the equivalent in a VW (like the Tiguan R), or Audi, or BMW.
