What were your needs when you bought this car? Has it fulfilled those needs?

Range over 350km per charge, good looking and at lower cost end of the market. Other than that we were open to what was out there. initially we were looking at the MG but it's an awkward looking vehicle and the range was marginal for our needs. In the end it came down to the Atto 3 or the Opel Mokka and the BYD won out on price. We have had one return to dealer experience when we ran the main battery down to zero which killed the 12V system other than that the car had been awesome. Great range and very nice to drive.

What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.

Loved the quirky interior, power was ok, range excellent. Battery tech is leading edge of you believe the sales pitch.

What have you discovered since owning the car?

Still very happy with it, smooth quiet and great range. Sound system not too bad, connectivity is great and the app is improving. Charging is good too, 30 mins at a fast charger tops the car off nicely.

What do you like/dislike about the car?

Dislikes are centred around the driver "aids". We live in a rural area with narrow rough roads and the driver aids cannot cope. Worst is the lane assist which is overly intrusive and can't cope with our lack of white marker lines. Secondly the 'radar' finds things on the side of the road that it insists are dangerous and grabs the brakes at random times. It has a dangerous feel about it, but certainly it gives us heart stopping moments, and close to being rear ended by following vehicles. Thirdly the adaptive cruise control is rubbish. Jerky harsh and we can't use it, period. It may work on three lane highways but there aren't any within 400km of us.

Any other comments on the car?

As updates come through the car gets better and easier to drive, I'll love it when they get to improving the driver aids!
