One of the main concerns for potential buyers of EVs, is range. "How will my battery last a road trip if there's no place to charge it?"

Well, fret no more! ZipCharge is introducing a product that it hopes will help solve this exact issue!

The device acts similarly to a "jerry can" for electricity, or a power bank for your phone. The ZipCharge Go is a portable battery that will give you a few more kilometres of range. It's capable of adding an extra 32-64 km depending on vehicle capacity, and it’s small enough to fit into the boot of most cars.

Jonathan Carrier, ZipCharge’s co-founder, says “the ZipCharge Go shows how charging infrastructure can develop to solve specific charging needs.”

“To encourage people to make the switch to electric we have to create charging infrastructure that makes it easier, cheaper, and more convenient to charge.”

ZipCharge claim the Go will deliver power to your vehicle within 30 to 60 minutes, which isn't super quick, but probably beats the speed of getting a tow truck to you in the wop wops.

The Go could also be used for people who have to park on the street, instead of in a garage, or for companies that operate a fleet of EVs.

It's designed to resemble a suitcase and takes little effort to wheel it around, making it easily transportable to a road or car park. It does, however, weigh 22.6 kg. So it could prove challenging to lift it in and out of the boot.

“ZipCharge is a solution for a real need, providing top-up charging to meet your daily mileage needs,” says Carrier. “It provides freedom, removing the burden of finding a charge point close to home, one that is working or isn’t occupied.”

ZipCharge aims to release the Go in the fourth quarter of 2022, and leasing prices will be around ₤47 per month. It can be purchased outright, but details aren't released yet.
