Its funny isn't it. Hardly any of the SUVs that populate today's roads actually ever see off-road usage. Yet, manufacturers are always so keen to showcase their product's talents on these most adverse of surfaces.

Part of it probably speaks to the rationale that people buy SUVs in big numbers due to the security in simply knowing that their new purchase is capable of such feats.

Or maybe they just like looking down on other motorists. Who knows.

I say this because the chance of seeing Lamborghini's new Urus SUV off road at any point other than during its international launch is rather slim. But, it's clear that the manufacturer have engineered the thing to be a proper weapon off-road judging by a fresh teaser clip of it taking on the dunes of the Middle East.

The clip highlights the addition of three new driving modes on the Urus; 'Sabbia' for sand, 'Terra' for land, and 'Neve' for snow. All of which look to give the car's twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 ample ability to strut its stuff on sand.

Lamborghini of course are no strangers to the rough stuff, having produced the now cult classic LM002 SUV some years ago. This looks like more of the same — a true successor.

The Urus will be presented sans the camouflage on December 4. Stay tuned to Driven for more.
